Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Inspection in Las Vegas: What to Know First

An independent HeatShield chimney inspection in Las Vegas typically runs $249 to $489, takes about 60 to 90 minutes, and includes a written report with camera footage you can watch yourself. We work on HeatShield liners and repair systems as an independent service provider, not a factory branch, which means we tell you plainly whether a section needs repair, can wait, or needs replacement. If you own a fireplace with a HeatShield resurfacing system or a HeatShield-cemented flue and want to know what you actually have up there, call (725) 220-6109 and we’ll schedule a time that works.

How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

HeatShield makes ceramic-based flue repair materials, not the original clay liner itself. Most Las Vegas homes with HeatShield have either a HeatShield Cerfractory flue sealant applied over cracked clay tiles, or a HeatShield joint repair where the mortar between tiles had started to fail. Here’s what we actually see on inspections.

  • Cerfractory delamination on original HeatShield applications from the early 2000s. The material bonds to the old clay tile, but after 15 to 20 years of Vegas heat cycling, we occasionally find sections that have separated from the substrate. On camera, it looks like a thin shell pulling away from the tile behind it. The fix is usually a localized reapplication, not a full reline.
  • Failed HeatShield Smoothtop or Repair Joint material at the first flue tile offset. This is the most common failure point we document in Las Vegas because that first offset takes the brunt of hot gas turbulence. If water has been getting down the flue, the material can spall or crack at that transition. We see this pattern so often in Summerlin and Green Valley homes that we call it the “first bend problem” internally.
  • Aftermarket patch work on top of HeatShield by a previous contractor. We sometimes open a flue expecting HeatShield and find someone smeared refractory cement over it as a patch. It rarely bonds well to the HeatShield surface. We document what’s actually there, then quote a proper repair using HeatShield or a compatible material like DuraFlex or Gelco, depending on what the flue needs.
  • HeatShield applied over unaddressed water entry. No flue coating survives a leaking chimney crown. In Las Vegas, the rain is infrequent but often intense when it comes, and older crowns in Summerlin take a beating. If we see HeatShield that’s failing from the top down, we inspect the crown and chase cover in the same visit, because fixing the liner without fixing the water source means doing it again in a few years.
  • Improper HeatShield application from the start. HeatShield materials require specific application thickness and curing conditions. When the original install was rushed or done in the wrong weather, the material can develop hairline cracks within a few seasons. We can’t always tell who did the original job, but we can tell you what’s holding up and what isn’t.

Our HeatShield Chimney Inspection Process

  1. 1
Phone call and scheduling. A live person answers, takes down your address and what you’re seeing, and gives you a real arrival window. No callback forms.
  2. 2
Arrival and setup. We show up in uniform, put down drop cloths around the fireplace, and walk you through what we’re about to do. Then we run the camera up the flue with you watching the monitor if you want.
  3. 3
Full flue documentation. We record everything from the firebox up to the cap: the HeatShield condition, any cracks, gaps, water staining, creosote or glaze buildup, and the condition of the crown and cap from the roof when accessible.
  4. 4
Plain-English findings. Nathan Corliss or one of our techs shows you the footage and explains what we found. If it’s sound, we say so. If it needs work, we tell you whether it’s urgent or something you can budget for next season.
  5. 5
Written price before any work starts. If repairs are needed, you get a written quote that matches what we said at the door. The invoice will match the quote. Every time.
  6. 6
Repair and written guarantee. We complete the repair using HeatShield materials or a compatible brand like DuraFlex or Gelco when appropriate, cap the flue, clean up, and hand you a written guarantee on the work. If it fails inside the guarantee period, we come back at no charge.

What HeatShield Chimney Inspection Costs in Las Vegas

Most HeatShield chimney inspections in Las Vegas run between $249 and $489 depending on the flue size, accessibility, and whether you need roof access for the crown and cap. A standard Level 1 inspection with camera is at the lower end. A Level 2 inspection during a real estate transaction runs a bit higher because of the documentation requirements. If our inspection finds a failed HeatShield section, repair costs vary widely based on what we find. Small localized HeatShield patch repairs often run in the $850 to $1,500 range. A full resurfacing job can run several thousand, but we only recommend that when the camera footage shows it’s actually necessary, and we show you that footage before you spend a dollar. Why Las Vegas Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Las Vegas for HeatShield Work

We’ve been cleaning and inspecting chimneys across Las Vegas since 2002. Nathan grew up in the San Fernando Valley and learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before shifting focus to the Vegas market, and he’s spent more than a decade working on chimneys all over this valley, including a lot of older wood-burning fireplaces in Summerlin. Our approach is the same on every job: say the price first, explain what you’re doing, and put the promise in writing. Every repair gets a written guarantee. If it fails inside the guarantee period, we return and fix it free. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee, and it applies to every HeatShield inspection and repair we do. We also work with DuraFlex and Gelco systems, which means we’re not married to one product line when a different material fits the job better. Our phones are staffed by a live person around the clock. If you call at midnight, someone answers.
