Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install HeatShield-compatible chimney caps across Las Vegas, with most installations running between $425 and $850 depending on the cap size, flue dimensions, and roof access. We carry common HeatShield cap sizes on the truck, so many jobs are done in a single visit. Most homeowners don’t think about their chimney cap until a monsoon windstorm sends it rattling across the roof, or a pigeon starts cooing from inside the flue. Then it becomes urgent.
Which HeatShield Models This Applies To
HeatShield manufactures caps that fit standard single-flue and multi-flue clay tile chimneys. The most common models we see on Las Vegas homes are the HeatShield single-flue cap (fits flues with outside tile dimensions from roughly 8″ x 8″ to 13″ x 13″) and the multi-flue cap for chimneys with two or three clay liners side by side. Here’s the gotcha most homeowners learn the hard way: the cap attaches to the outside of the clay flue tile, so you’ll need to know the outside dimensions of the tile itself, not the opening. If your existing cap is unsalvageable, measure the tile’s outside width and length, or take a photo from no more than a few feet away and we’ll identify the match from it. HeatShield also makes rectangular and oval base options for older or non-standard flues, which matters on a lot of 1980s-era fireplaces we see in Summerlin and Green Valley.
A note on OEM vs aftermarket: HeatShield caps are well-made but sometimes backordered. We’ll always quote the genuine HeatShield cap first. If your chimney plan allows it, we also stock quality equivalents from DuraFlex and Gelco that match the same footprint and often arrive faster. We’ll show you the exact part and price before anything is installed, so you decide what goes on your roof.

Signs Your HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
- The cap is loose or spins by hand. Over time, the mounting band or screws that grip the flue tile corrode, especially after years of Las Vegas sun and wind. A loose cap lets embers escape and rain get in.
- Visible rust holes or stress cracks in the mesh or lid. HeatShield caps are durable, but our UV exposure and the valley’s occasional wind-driven sand wears the finish faster than the national average. Once rust compromises the mesh, birds and rodents still find a way in.
- Water stains on the firebox floor or damper. When a cap’s storm collar or caulk seal fails, water follows the flue down. In Las Vegas, it doesn’t rain often; but when it does, the damage from a missing seal compounds fast.
- Debris in the firebox: twigs, nesting material, or feathers. A damaged cap is an open invitation to desert sparrows trying to escape the heat. Their nests are a top cause of blocked flues and fire hazards we see every breeding season.
- Cap blown completely off during monsoon winds. This one’s obvious. If you see a square of steel on the ground outside your home after a blow, your chimney is wide open until you call. We get a wave of these calls every July and August.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Las Vegas, you should expect to pay between $425 and $850 installed for a HeatShield chimney cap. The exact number depends on three things: flue tile dimensions, whether you need a single-flue or multi-flue cap, and roof accessibility (single-story, walkable roof vs a steep two-story pitch). The price you get from us includes the cap itself, the mounting hardware, removal and disposal of the old cap, and the labor to install and seal it correctly. We don’t add surprise “roof prep” or “fuel surcharge” line items at the end. Every quote is in writing before we touch a ladder, and the Kingswell Guarantee covers the installation for one year; if the cap works loose or leaks within that window, we return and fix it at no charge. Call (725) 220-6109 and we’ll give you a firm number before you decide anything.
DIY or Call Us?
If you can safely access your roof and just need to confirm your cap is loose or missing, take a photo from the top of a secure ladder and send it to us. That’s a perfectly reasonable first step. But installing a chimney cap on a second-story Las Vegas roof under direct sun, with a tile flue that can crack if the band is over-tightened, is not a weekend project. One wrong step on a concrete-tile roof costs more than the cap itself. We handle the roof work with the right equipment, and every installation is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If you want this done without climbing anything, call (725) 220-6109 and we’ll schedule it. You don’t need to be home for the whole job, just to let us in for the final check from below.
FAQs
A HeatShield cap installed correctly in the Las Vegas climate typically lasts 10 to 18 years, with the wide range due to sun exposure, wind-driven sand, and whether the mounting hardware was sealed correctly at install. Caps on west-facing chimneys in The Summerlin area often wear faster than shaded east-facing ones. If your cap is over 12 years old and shows rust, replacement is usually cheaper than repair in the long run. Call (725) 220-6109 and we can tell you honestly whether yours has years left or is done.
Sometimes. If the damage is limited to a torn mesh panel or a loose corner on the lid, we can often make a solid repair on site for under $200. But if the base band or the storm collar is rusted through, it’s not safe to keep it – those are the parts that hold the cap to your flue. We’ll show you exactly what failed, and you’ll always get the repair price and the replacement price side by side before deciding.
Most single-flue HeatShield cap installations take 45 minutes to an hour once we’re on the roof. A multi-flue replacement or a job with difficult roof access can run up to two hours. Either way, it’s a same-visit job in most cases, not a multi-day project.
We keep common HeatShield single-flue sizes on our truck so most Las Vegas installations can be completed the day we arrive. For unusual flue dimensions, we’ll order the exact part and come back to install it, typically within a few business days. We’ll tell you before we order anything, with the full price in writing.
