Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Gelco Chimney Sweep in Las Vegas: What to Know First
We provide independent Gelco chimney sweep and inspection in Las Vegas, typically within the same week you call. Most sweeps on Gelco-equipped fireplaces run between $189 and $279, and if we find a problem during the sweep, you get a written price for the fix before we touch anything else. This page is for homeowners who own a Gelco fireplace, insert, or chimney component and want a sweep done by people who actually know how Gelco products behave after years of Las Vegas summers and winters. If you’d rather just talk it through, call (725) 220-6109 and a live person picks up, day or night.
How Gelco Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Gelco makes some of the most common prefabricated chimney and venting components found in Las Vegas track homes, and we’ve swept thousands of them. Here’s what we actually see in the field, named by what it is, not by alarm-bell language.
- Gelco double-wall air-cooled chimney pipe with creosote glaze at the flue collar. In wood-burning setups, the air gap between the inner and outer pipe often cools faster than the inner liner. That temperature differential causes creosote to condense right at the collar joints, where it turns into hard glaze that brushes won’t remove. We use rotary loop rods and, in heavy cases, a creosote softening agent left overnight. The fix is mechanical, not chemical voodoo.
- Gelco direct-vent gas termination caps clogged with Las Vegas dust and cottonwood fuzz. Spring in the valley means a fine white fluff that drifts everywhere, and Gelco caps have screened louvers that catch it. When those screens plug, the unit can short-cycle or fail to draft. We remove the cap, hand-wash the mesh, and verify the pressure switch isn’t reading a blocked flue before we call the job done.
- Corrosion at Gelco chimney chase tops where the galvanized pan meets the vent pipe. Las Vegas doesn’t get much rain, but what it gets often comes fast and evaporates slowly, and chase pans on older Gelco installations are not always sealed the way the warranty assumed. Water wicks between the pan and pipe, and eventually the pipe starts to rust at the chase top. We inspect this joint on every sweep and flag it before the rust migrates down.
- Gelco Class A chimney pipe with loose twist-lock joints after years of heat cycling. Melting expansion and cooling contraction works connections loose over a decade or two. A loose Gelco twist-lock is not a DIY repair; the pipe sections can separate inside the chase and vent gas into the wall cavity. We test every joint by hand during a sweep and re-seat anything questionable using the correct depth and rotation for Gelco’s locking pattern.
- Cracked ceramic refractory panels in Gelco gas fireplaces (especially older GBDV and GBFL-era units). Hairline cracks in the rear or side panels are common once a unit passes ten years, and in the dry Las Vegas air they can open quickly. Not every crack means replacement, but some definitely do. We measure the crack, photograph it, and tell you the truth: whether it’s cosmetic, whether it affects draft, and whether it’s a safety issue. If it needs panels, we’ll source them and give you the price in writing before you decide.

Our Gelco Chimney Sweep Process
A Gelco job isn’t a drive-by. Here’s what actually happens from the moment you call (725) 220-6109 to the moment we walk out your door.
- 1
Call and a live answer. You talk to a person, not a phone tree. We ask about your Gelco unit: gas or wood, what you’ve noticed, when it was last swept. That lets us know what to bring.
- 2
Visual rundown of the Gelco components. Where does the vent path actually go? We check the firebox, the flue collar, the chimney pipe, the chase top, and the termination cap. If the termination is on a two-story roof with a steep pitch in Summerlin, we account for that before we commit to a price.
- 3
Written price, no exceptions. We quote the sweep and any repair in writing after we see the unit. The number on the invoice matches the number we quoted. Say the price first, explain what you’re doing, and put the promise in writing.
- 4
The sweep itself. We protect the floors and furniture with drop cloths, run a HEPA-filtered dust collection system, and work top-down: cap removed and cleaned, flue brushed, smoke shelf cleared, firebox vacuumed. For gas Gelco units we clean the pilot assembly, burner, glass, and logs, then check the venting end-to-end.
- 5
The Level 1 inspection. After the sweep we inspect every accessible part of the venting. If we see something that needs real repair, you get photographs and a written quote. If we see something that can wait, we tell you that too, and we note it for the next visit.
- 6
Cleanup, test, and written guarantee. We leave the fireplace area cleaner than we found it. We test ignition, draft, and burn pattern on gas units. Every repair carries a written guarantee under the Kingswell Guarantee. If a covered repair fails, we return at no charge within the guarantee period.

AfterWhat Gelco Chimney Sweep Costs in Las Vegas
Here’s our current pricing for Gelco work in Las Vegas. These are the numbers we quote most often, before any repair work comes into play.
- Standard chimney sweep with Level 1 inspection: $189 – $229 for gas, $219 – $279 for wood-burning with heavy creosote buildup.
- Plgco (plugged) cap cleaning and reinstallation: $45 – $85, done during the sweep, no second trip fee.
- Reset and re-seal of a loose Gelco twist-lock joint: $65 – $130 per joint, depending on chase access.
- Refractory panel replacement (gelco gas fireplaces): $340 – $620 total for typical panels and labor.
- Chase top seal replacement on older Gelco pans: $180 – $340 including clean, prime, and seal.
What moves price the most: the condition of the creosote, how accessible the roof and chase are, and how old the Gelco piping is. If access is good and the buildup is normal, you’ll be at the low end. If a Summerlin two-story with a steep roof is involved, that’s more ladder time and more hours. Every quote is in writing before any work begins, and the estimate is free. Call (725) 220-6109 for an exact number on your specific Gelco setup.
Why Las Vegas Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Las Vegas for Gelco Work
Plenty of companies in Las Vegas will sweep a Gelco chimney without knowing a Gelco chimney from any other pipe. We know the difference because we’ve been cleaning and inspecting Gelco across the valley for well over a decade, including plenty of older wood-burning fireplaces in Summerlin. Nathan Corliss, who runs the crew, got his start at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent years pulling apart Las Vegas venting systems. What you get is a technician who can look at a Gelco firebox and tell you, in plain English, what’s normal wear and what’s a repair, with a camera photo to back it up. And if something else in your chimney was built with DuraFlex or HeatShield components, we work on those brands too, so one visit covers the whole flue system. Every job comes with the Kingswell Guarantee: if the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back at no charge. That’s it. That’s the Kingswell Way.
FAQs
Once a year for gas, and for wood-burning Gelco fireplaces used regularly in winter, every 1 to 2 cords burned or once per season, whichever comes first. The dry Las Vegas air tends to bake creosote into a harder glaze than you’d see in humid climates, which makes annual sweeping more important here than people expect. Call (725) 220-6109 to schedule at your convenience and we’ll confirm what your unit actually needs.
No, we’re an independent Gelco service provider, not affiliated with or authorized by Gelco, and we can’t perform warranty-covered work on their behalf. What we do is honest diagnostic work: we can tell you whether the failure is the kind Gelco’s warranty typically covers, and we’ll give you the photos and documentation you need to file a claim. If you’d rather not wait, we can often secure the needed Gelco or quality aftermarket parts and do the repair for a written price.
It depends on what’s failed and what’s available. For most refractory panels and caps, quality aftermarket parts match or exceed original specifications and cost less. For pipe sections and twist-lock joints, we prefer OEM Gelco whenever it’s available, because the locking tolerances matter. We’ll show you both options, quote them honestly, and let you decide. You never pay for a part we didn’t tell you about first.
In a gas Gelco unit, dust and debris can interfere with draft and cause intermittent shutdowns or carbon monoxide issues. In a wood-burning Gelco, creosote builds up in the air-cooled pipe, and if it ignites, it burns hot enough to damage the inner liner and the chase. A chimney fire is not a theoretical risk; it’s a hot gas flame inside a chase, and many Las Vegas homes have the dry wood framing to feed it. That said, skipping one year won’t doom anything. The longer you wait, the more carbon and acid deposits accumulate, and the harder they are to remove. Call (725) 220-6109 for a free estimate if you’re due.
Most Gelco sweep jobs are scheduled within three to five business days, depending on how many stops we have that week across Las Vegas and the surrounding area. In the fall and early winter, the schedule fills faster. We don’t do same-day dispatch, because a real Gelco sweep takes a couple of hours and should be booked, not rushed. We’ll give you a solid arrival window and we keep it.
