Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Copperfield Chimney Cap Installation: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
If you have a Copperfield chimney cap that’s rusted through, dented by wind, or missing altogether, we can match it and install the replacement, usually the same visit. Most Copperfield chimney cap installations in Las Vegas run between $285 and $520 depending on the flue size and whether the mounting brackets need to be re-anchored. What usually brings people to this page is finding water stains on the ceiling near the fireplace, hearing a wind howl coming down the flue, or spotting a cap on the ground after one of our spring windstorms.
We stock Copperfield-compatible caps in the most common Las Vegas flue sizes on the truck, so when Nathan Corliss or one of our techs comes out, there’s a good chance the job is done in one trip. You don’t have to pay for a second visit just because the old cap was an odd size.
Which Copperfield Models This Applies To
Copperfield chimney caps break down into two main families: the standard single-flue caps (square or rectangular bases) and the multi-flue caps that span the full width of a chimney crown. The single-flue models are the ones we replace most often in Las Vegas, simply because our extreme UV and dry heat make exposed fasteners and screens fail faster than they do in wetter climates.
Before you order anything, measure the outside dimensions of your flue tile. If you have a round flue, measure the outside diameter. Most Copperfield single-flue caps fit flue tiles from 8″x8″ through 13″x13″ and round flues from 6″ through 12″ diameter. The gotcha we see often: homeowners measure the inside of the flue, order a cap too small, and the cap rocks loose in the first big wind. Measure outside to outside, and if you’re not certain, call us and we’ll measure when we arrive.
Ashby Chimney Las Vegas is an independent service provider. We don’t have any corporate relationship with Copperfield, but we work with their caps and mounting kits every week, and we’re comfortable matching their spec sheets to what’s actually on your roof.
On the OEM vs aftermarket question: Copperfield’s own caps are well-built with a painted steel hood and stainless screen. For most Las Vegas homes, a quality aftermarket cap with a stainless hood and stainless screen will outlast the painted hoods, and it’ll cost roughly $40 to $90 less. If your existing cap is a Copperfield, we’re happy to install the Copperfield replacement. We’ll also tell you honestly if a stainless aftermarket option is the better value for a cap that bakes in the Las Vegas sun all summer.

Signs Your Copperfield Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
- Rust streaks down the side of the chimney. Water is pooling under the cap or the cap’s painted steel has started to corrode. In Las Vegas, the rust usually comes from the screen and the mounting fasteners, not the hood itself. It might look cosmetic now, but rusting hardware is cap failure in slow motion.
- You hear a metallic rattle or howl when the wind picks up. The cap has loosened from its mounting brackets. Las Vegas regularly sees 40-60 mph gusts in March and April, and a cap that’s loose will bang against the flue tile. Each gust works the anchor screws a little looser.
- You found a chimney cap in your yard. The wind won. Screws pulled out or the bracket cracked. If the cap flew off, your flue is now wide open to birds, squirrels, leaves, and embers.
- You see nesting material or bird droppings around the fireplace. The cap’s screen is damaged or missing entirely. Birds and squirrels love an open flue in Las Vegas, and a blocked nest turns into a carbon monoxide problem and a chimney fire risk pretty quickly.
- Water staining on the ceiling or walls near the fireplace. Rain made it past the cap and into the flue. In the Las Vegas valley, some of our heaviest downpours come during July and August monsoon season, and an uncovered or poorly seated cap turns one storm into a persistent wall stain and a mildew smell.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a standard single-flue Copperfield-compatible chimney cap in Las Vegas, expect to pay between $285 and $520 installed. The spread depends on three things: flue size (larger caps cost more), whether we need to re-drill anchor holes into the crown, and whether the existing cap’s brackets left the flue tile damaged.
Every Ashby Chimney Las Vegas quote is written before we lift a tool, and the price on the invoice matches the price we gave you at the door. That’s the Kingswell Way: say the price first, explain what you’re doing, and put the promise in writing. The cap itself, the mounting bracket, stainless fasteners, and labor are all in the number we write down. If your cap ever shakes loose or the screen fails during our guarantee period, Nathan Corliss comes back and fixes it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. No “re-diagnosis fee,” no “that’s not covered.” If the repair fails, we come back – free.
And if the cap is fine but the crown around it is cracked and worn, we’ll show you photos before we ever recommend crown work. Nothing gets sold that you can’t see for yourself.
DIY or Call Us?
This is a roof-access job, and that’s where the honest conversation starts. If you’re comfortable on a ladder with a full tool belt and you have a flat, walkable roof, a single-flue cap swap is within reach for a capable homeowner. The part and the bracket are easy to understand, and the instructions that come with the cap are decent.
What’s not within reach for most people is walking around a Las Vegas tile roof in July when the surface is 130 degrees, or leaning over a two-story eave with a drill in one hand. And if the old cap’s screws are seized or the bracket is rusted to the flue tile, you’re suddenly drilling into clay blind. A cracked flue tile from a misplaced anchor hole is a $300 repair. We’d rather you call us at (725) 220-6109 and let us do it on a cool morning with the right ladder and the cap already on the truck. We’ll tell you the price before you agree to anything.
FAQs
Most Copperfield caps last 7 to 12 years in Las Vegas, with the screen and fasteners failing before the hood. Our dry heat and high UV exposure cause the paint to fade first, the mesh to split at the seams second, and then the fasteners start to corrode at the crown line. A stainless aftermarket replacement typically runs 10 to 15 years under the same conditions. If you want a specific lifespan estimate for your roof, call (725) 220-6109 and we’ll tell you what we typically see in your neighborhood.
A bent hood can sometimes be hammered back into shape, but a rusted screen or corroded mounting bracket can’t be repaired safely. In practice, if the screen is going, the cap is far enough gone that a repair would cost as much as replacing it. We recommend replacement in nearly every case. We’ll show you the old cap before we take it down so you can see exactly what failed.
Most Copperfield chimney cap installations take 45 to 90 minutes from ladder setup to final tightening. The actual cap swap is quick; the time goes into safely setting up on your roof, getting the old cap off, cleaning the flue edge, and drilling new anchor holes if the old ones are stripped. Call (725) 220-6109 for a free estimate and we’ll give you a straight arrival window in writing.
Yes. We stock Copperfield-compatible caps in the most common Las Vegas flue sizes, including 8″x8″, 8″x13″, and 13″x13″ square flues and 6″ through 12″ round flues. If your flue is an uncommon size, we’ll order the cap and schedule a return visit without any additional trip charge. We also carry caps and parts from DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco when a specific fit requires it.
